CARING FOR
YOUR ANTIQUITY JEWELRY
The ancient settings used in the Anciennes jewelry have already survived
hundreds, even thousands of years. With some attention to careful
handling and
storage, there is every reason your antiquity should survive for
generations to
come. Here are a few simple steps for the care of your antiquity:
Handling and Storage
• Handle ancient artifacts gently - especially those made of bronze.
• Store artifact jewelry away from other jewelry in a cushioned, enclosed box.
• Store your antiquity in a dry place. If you live in a humid climate,
store with a pack of
silica gel (easily purchased online) which will act as a
drying agent.
Cleaning
• Do not attempt to clean your antiquity jewelry with chemicals, ultrasound equip-
ment, heat or other modern methods, as this could seriously harm ancient metal.
• Any of the attached gemstones can be polished with a soft brush or cloth.
Bronze Disease
• Bronze Disease is characterized by a light green powder on the item’s surface.
• The powder sheds easily, leaving deep scars, and, if unchecked,
will eventually destroy
the piece.
• The following article by Bruce Nesset details symptoms and cure for Bronze Disease.
